Out: Any ball that lands outside the play area
Safe: A declaration by the umpire that a runner who is trying for a base has not been tagged or forced out, and is therefore entitled to that base.
Strike: The feat of knocking down all ten pins with the first ball. The score for the frame is 10 plus the total number of pins knocked down by the next two balls. The symbol is X.
Forfeited Game: A game declared ended by the umpire for violation of the rules, and awarded to the offended team.
Rabbit Ears: Term for an umpire who spends too much time and energy listening to the complaints and catcalls from the fans to pay proper attention the game.
Checked Swing: A partial swing. If the swing has gone more than halfway around, the umpire can rule it a full swing, or strike.
Overrule: Reversing a call from the linesperson, done by the umpire
